Hello

I have not yet fully digested the fact that my son will be born disabled (spina bifida) but now another problem occurs:

Our son was listed for a great privat school near my workplace. However now that our son will be disabled and might be forced to use a wheelchair, the school is no longer willing to accept him. This is very frustrating. However, we are now looking for a renowned school for disabled children with full intelligence in Buenos Aires.

I hope there is someone who can recommand such an educational institute.

With great respect,
Ty

Hi Ty,

I feel with your frustration, but please, don't accept this result. In germany it's sometime the same. The teachers wont to disapprove wheelchair kid's too. Mostly they don't do this why they don't like wheelchair kids. Not Rarely they do this because they are afraid and unknowing. They are unstable what wheelchair Kid's connoted for the school harmony. Your son is strange for them. But you can change it.

The parents in germany fight for their childrens law. Your son will not have a handicap at his brain. He is not very different as other kids. He will only have handicap legs. Only stairs can stop him. Make this school a offering. Offer this school to help rebuild the school barrier-free. Offer this school to meet your son bevor he have go to school. etc, etc, etc. When you win the teachers of this school for your son, you win this school not only for your son, you win them for all wheelchair kids.

Your boy need to grow with normal children. Please don't acept a school for handicap children. When children be paraplegic at an accident, they don't have to leave there school. They can live there normal life forward. Your son have the same privilege. icon_wink.gif

Also for children, adolescents and young adults with a disability, the regular school attendance in a resource-oriented and a "normal" social environment is important to prepare them for life.

Best regards,

Kelly

Life is always beautiful! *smile*

Miria, no. good private schools are hard to get at! the sooner you apply the better chances you have. many important families enter their children prebirth.
Talk to the director, maybe you can agree that your application will be put on hold until your boy is older and it's clearer what he is able to do and what not.
Good luck!
