Hi

I applied for a PR job and even get to the jobinterview which will be in a week. the lady on the phone said that my future boss might be suspicious because I am in wheelchair and that I might want to prepare carefully what to say to talk him over.

now, do you have any ideas what arguments i could use? i am paraplegic due to a car accident (wasnt my fault!!) but im still intellecutally complete

Greetings

Hi paraboy

welcome aboard!
Wheeliegirl greets paraboy xD

I think you dont have to come up with arguments. YOU are the argument! just be urself and show that boss whos the boss icon_wink.gif Naw, If you are just professional and you show that you know your stuff he will be convinced. and if he acts a bit strange towards you, you can say "ok, lets talk about the elefant in this room. I am in wheelchair but that only affects me on XY. on my workplace however I dont have any disabilities due to my disability. all I need is a ramp."

I hope i could help you.

Greetings

Hi paraboy

First of all: Welcome in our Forum!

I agree with wheeliegirl. He invited you for an interview that's already the first and maybe even the hardest step (because many dont even want to see disabled candicates). I asume that he is just unsure if he has to pay a lot of applications for you or if you are sick all the time. present him cheap ideas for ramps or oder applications you need and tell him that you have been sick for 2 day in the last year or so. he cant controll it anyway, only if he calls your former boss. if he does that and you were ill many days, explain him why and why that wont happen again.

Maybe you have a boss within your friends. Ask them what concerns they might have and try to find solutions to any of them. When your future boss has the same concerns you are ready to present him your solutions!

I wish you good luck!!

I would agree that the lady on the phone may have just been making assumptions about the boss' prejudices. I would keep the interview based on the job and casually address the disability. You could say, "So, in case you're wondering what accomadations I might need..." I wouldn't be overly detailed about the issue of your disability, especially since it doesn't appear it would affect the job performance in any way. If you are confident about your ability, the new boss will likely be as well.
