How long does it take until I can walk with an above-knee prosthesis without a stick?

Hi
I’ve been leg amputated for 3 months now and I have prosthesis for 8 weeks. But I feel like it doesn’t go on fast enough. Am I too impatient? Is there a “fellow sufferer” who can help me a little here? Thanks in advance

Hi
Building up muscles takes a long time. But the more you walk and exercise, the more you train your muscles and the more you feel the progress going on. It usually takes 2-3 years to become really fit. But that doesn’t mean that you have to walk with the stick for 2-3 years. It depends on the size of your stump, your sportiness and your power how fast you will adjust to the prosthesis. You should also know that some people never get rid of the stick. If you want to do yourself some good, have a glass of milk or yoghurt after each physical strain. This gives your muscles the nutrition they need.
Greetings,
Karin

hi
Thank you for your quick and helpful answer. I probably need to be a little more patient with myself. I already can walk a little without the stick, but rather badly.
Thanks again and best wishes,
your Emmi
