Hi and welcome!

I never had any problems with flying.
You have to anounce yourself as a wheelchair user when buying the ticket. When you get to the airport you go to help service where a assistant will be waiting for you. You have to swap wheelchair, your own goes in to luggage and you get one by the airline until you sit in you seat in the airplane. When you arrive, they pick you up with an other wheelchair and after passed the custom and all that you can get back into your own.
You can tell them that you've never flewn before they will be very nice with you and tell you everything.

This all is depending on your disability however. I dont know how they handle it if you need oxigen bottles. Shouldnt be that big a problem either. I once talked to a guy who need this and he flies all the time!

Where to do you want to fly?
