Our Swiss Ambassadors
A stroke of fate can change a whole life within seconds. Affected people are frozen from the shock; the orientation in life is often lost. Additional to the best possible physical recovery, various props are needed to handle the psychological trauma ... and to find the way back into life. In addition to professional help such as from doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists, there are the Ambassadors of MyHandicap. They have experienced similar things, and have been confronted with a disability as well. Therefore, they know exactly how the affected people and their families feel.
Upon request, newly affected people can be accompanied by an Ambassador yet shortly after the incident. The Ambassadors can credibly answer questions to which non-disabled people have no answers. And since all our Ambassadors lead a satisfied and fulfilled life, they can provide positive motivational insights into a possible future.
In the German-speaking part of Switzerland, there are over a dozen honorary Ambassadors in duty since November 2009. We hope that in the future, there will be many more.
So far, we offer this service only for Switzerland and Germany. However, if you wish to talk to an also affected person, we will try to find a suitable person for you.
Are you personally interested in participating? In that case, we look forward to hearing from you.

With an amputation, so many questions arise which an already lower leg amputee like me might be able to answer. I want to support other affected people and be a help to them.

After I have lost my right leg through an accident, I felt left alone with the new situation. I did not know whom to contact to talk about my experiences. I would have been happy if I would have had the opportunity to talk with other amputees, especially about my phantom pains. However, I have managed to deal with the situation and maintain my optimism and positive attitude to life; so I would like to help newly affected people as an Ambassador so that they can succeed too.

The work as an Ambassador is for me an important contribution to the assistance of people who suddenly have to deal with a disability. I see in this work the possibility to support affected people with my own experiences (tetraplegia) in this difficult situation and give them new and positive perspectives.

Since I am leg amputated at the age of 20, I know about the difficult situation. I would love to bolster other people.

Quite a lot of questions suddenly arose when my leg was amputated. I would have been glad if I could have contacted other affected people. Short and sweet: That's why I am an Ambassador.

I have made myself available as an Ambassador because I am really thankful that I am very well since the amputation of my lower leg (2008). I think that the visit of an affected person at the bed of a new patient can sometimes be more valuable than the help from a psychiatrist.

I have always looked ahead in my life. That neither has changed since I'm paraplegic since 2002. Meanwhile, I had plenty of time to get to know my new body, and in the everyday life, I “got used to” the wheelchair. If I can help a newly affected person with my personal experience, then I am really glad about that.

I have lost my lower leg totally unexpected to illness in 2006. The friendship with a young woman with a similar fate gave me a lot of confidence in this difficult time and helped me to find my way in my new life. With my work as an Ambassador, I would like to bolster affected people so that they can look optimistically into future!

Since I am cerebral paralysed from birth, and despite this mobility disability I have been very lucky in my life. I want to give something back as an Ambassador. I am a wheelchair user, I run my own household and I have worked for 30 years in the private sector. I hope help people with my experience.
